In partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture & Land Reclamation, The Institutional Linkages Component of AERI – Agricultural Exports & Rural Income Project, implemented by MUCIA - the Midwest Universities Consortium for International Activities & funded by the USAID is accepting prospectuses for the so – called Collaborative Egypt Agriculture/ Industry Impact Grants Program. Invited are research institutions, universities, non-governmental organizations & private sector entities to submit two page prospectuses by March 23, 2004. Selected prospectuses will be invited to submit a full proposal. Preference will be given to projects that include collaboration between two or more Egyptian institutions. The Impact Grants Program will support market based research programs that focus on developing technical or management solutions to help strengthen Egypt agricultural competitiveness including: (a) Crop production research to adapt technologies to small farms systems including varietal selection, plant nutrition & integrated pest management. (b) Livestock production & marketing projects to involve animal health & productivity, milk production & collection systems, to increase small holder access to commercial market opportunities. (c) Application of technology in the processing & handling of horticultural crops & dairy products by small-scale producers. (d) GIS mapping to determine areas of comparative advantage. (e) Food safety procedures. N.B. No funding will be made available for citrus, cotton or sugarcane research.
