| Description | Egypt sugar production is projected to reach 1.63 million in 2004, up by 80,000 tons above its level in 2003. According to Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Yousef Wali, the sugar cane crop is expected to exceed the 15 million tons level, hence covering requirements of all cane sugar mills in Upper Egypt & leaving a surplus justifying the construction of a new cane sugar mill in Asswan. Meanwhile other 3 beat sugar mills are planned in Noubariya, Port Said & Sharkiya under L.E. 1.8 billion estimated investments. On the other hand, plans are said to have been drawn to increase & revamp sugar-refining capacities at the existing factories to reach one million tons/ annum over the next two years. |
